Hedgerow management workshops
We have run four Hedgerow Management workshops for landowners and farmers, led by hedgerow expert (and expert hedgelayer) Nigel Adams.
Hedgerow management plays a crucial part in their long term survival. How can you get the right balance between maintenance and capital works costs, wildlife habitat and the long-term condition of hedgerows on your land? If you are in a scheme in which hedges play an important part, you may just feel that your hedges need ‘sorting out’, that for too long they just get trimmed every year and they are losing condition? What are the advantages of having a hedgerow management plan?
Our free practical workshops aim to look at hedgerows afresh. There is usually an indoor presentation with Q&As in the morning, followed by a free light lunch and then a farm walk looking at a variety of hedgerow types in the afternoon.
There is plenty of time for questions and discussion during the day.
We thought the session was informative and helpful (we can’t look at a hedgerow the same way we used to now). Nigel was a clear speaker and clearly very knowledgeable. We are thinking of how we might manage our hedgerows differently as a result....
Nigel Adams is one of my all-time heroes. He has a rare combination of encyclopaedic knowledge of his subject combined with down-to-earth practical hands-on skills. I was glad to hear that he is publishing a book. It was, as always, superb organisation and a wonderful lunch. The venue was excellent, with a nice homely seminar room.
